I must build one of these! What could be cooler than a CylonOLantern?

I put together a little animated LED ChristmasTree for the holiday, using a PIC and a bunch of LEDs. Pretty basic, but impressed the party guests nonetheless. I like the "seizure mode" high-speed flashing the best.

I finally got around to moving the photo gallery site from the ancient GX110 sitting at home on a slow connection to some real hosting. It was a far bigger hassle than it should have been (getting the files from home, uploading them to the new host, and getting them imported into Gallery2) because I was dealing with about 5GB of data in ~7000 files. Most of the trouble was with Gallery2 because it absolutely sucks at big imports, but it's done.

Comcast is now sending unencrypted digital HDTV feeds of the local broadcast channels in Gloucester, MA. channels.conf here if you're in the area.

Got myself an iPhone as an early birthday present. $499 was a bit much, so I'd been thinking about getting a refurb for $399. But when Apple discontinued the 4GB model and put them on clearance for $299, I decided to go for it.

Saw a show at TT the Bear's Place. Black Clouds opened, but they weren't very good (even for an opening act) - just a lot of unintelligible noise. The Konks were just a little better - mostly noise, but they closed with a great rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll". Finally, Living Things really rocked. Just as loud, but understandable and with a great beat. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing that they played for less than 45 minutes. Still not bad for a $10 show. Photos.

It snowed today, despite the fact that it was 60 a couple days ago. Took a nice walk down the Charles and and really wished my hats, gloves, and boots weren't all at home. Not a huge deal, though, since Christmas break is less than two weeks away.

Walking home from class, I noticed that they were disassembling the AC display in the MFA courtyard and snapped a few photos.

It was snowing like crazy when I got out of my Theory of Computation final this afternoon. Looked like it dropped about 6 inches in two hours. Where was that at like 5:00 AM when it might've closed school? Argh!
